Cindy Ouellet from Quebec, Canada is a wheelchair basketball champion and alpine ski champ. At age 12, she was diagnosed with bone tumors and was given a 5% chance of survival. She lost both of her legs, including her left, and was forced to use a wheelchair. Cindy found strength when she realized she would be using a wheelchair. After that, Cindy turned to wheelchair basketball and won gold at Canada Games.

Ouellet is currently competing at the fourth Paralympic Games. She has made it to both the Summer and Winter Games and won gold in both. Ouellet has been involved in paralympic and other sports. She has also competed in the Parapan Games and the World Championships.


She hopes to develop prosthetic limbs

Annika Emmert developed a prosthetic arm that responds to nerve impulses. The arm will allow her gestures and hold objects, without interfering with her silicone arm. She plans to make prosthetic limbs with a natural appearance in the near future. During her PhD, she worked closely with Tony Best, Brian Nicholson and Dr Ben Metcalfe.
